Occupational physician: what to know
An occupational physician looks after people's health in relation to their work. They assess fitness for certain roles, identify work-related risks, advise employers and employees on prevention, and support the return to work after illness or an accident.
When to book an appointment
- A fitness-for-work assessment requested by your employer
- Exposure to noise, chemicals or dust at work
- Returning to work after a long period of absence
- Symptoms you associate with your job or workstation
Costs in Switzerland
In Switzerland, occupational health examinations are usually arranged by the employer; depending on the case, costs are borne by the employer, accident insurance (LAA/UVG) or basic health insurance.
