Orthodontist: what to know

An orthodontist is a dentist specialising in correcting the position of the teeth and jaws. They treat children, adolescents and adults using fixed or removable braces or clear aligners, and monitor progress with regular check-ups throughout treatment.

When to book an appointment

• Crooked, overlapping or widely spaced teeth you would like corrected
• A misalignment between the upper and lower jaw
• A first orthodontic check-up for a growing child
• Wanting clear aligner treatment as an adult

Costs in Switzerland

Orthodontic treatment is generally not covered by basic health insurance (LAMal/KVG), except for certain severe malformations; supplementary dental insurance may contribute to the costs.
