View profilePulmonologist: what to know
A pulmonologist is a doctor specialising in the lungs and airways. They treat asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respiratory infections and sleep-related breathing disorders such as sleep apnoea, and carry out tests such as lung function tests to assess breathing.
When to book an appointment
- A cough that has persisted for several weeks
- Breathlessness on exertion or difficulty breathing
- Follow-up of asthma or a chronic lung condition
- Heavy snoring and pauses in breathing during sleep
Costs in Switzerland
Consultations with a pulmonologist are covered by basic health insurance (LAMal/KVG); depending on your insurance model, a referral from your family doctor may be required.
