Cardiologist: what to know

A cardiologist is the specialist doctor for the heart and blood vessels. They carry out tests such as an electrocardiogram, heart ultrasound or exercise test, and manage high blood pressure, heart rhythm problems, heart failure and recovery after a heart attack.

• Palpitations or an irregular heartbeat, even at rest
• Unusual breathlessness when you exert yourself
• High blood pressure that is hard to control
• A heart check before returning to sport
