Rheumatologist: what to know

A rheumatologist is the specialist doctor for the non-surgical care of conditions affecting the joints, bones, muscles and tendons. They manage osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, gout and chronic musculoskeletal pain with appropriate medical treatment and long-term follow-up.

When to book an appointment

• Swollen, stiff or painful joints in the morning
• Long-standing pain in your back or joints
• Screening or regular follow-up for osteoporosis
• Ongoing care for an inflammatory condition such as arthritis

Consultations are covered by compulsory basic health insurance (LAMal/KVG); depending on your insurance model, a family doctor referral may be required.
