Surgeon: what to know

A surgeon is the doctor who treats certain conditions or injuries through an operation. They decide whether surgery is appropriate, explain the procedure and its alternatives, carry out the operation and provide post-operative follow-up in liaison with your own doctor.

When to book an appointment

• An opinion on a hernia, gallbladder or appendix
• A lump, cyst or skin lesion to be removed
• Information before an operation suggested by your doctor
• A wound check after a procedure

Costs in Switzerland

Medically necessary operations are covered by compulsory basic health insurance (LAMal/KVG); cosmetic procedures are generally not covered.
