Sports physician: what to know

A sports physician treats injuries and health problems related to physical activity, for both recreational and competitive athletes. They carry out fitness assessments, advise on returning to training and, where needed, coordinate care with physiotherapy.

When to book an appointment

• Sprain, tendinitis or pain that started during sport
• Assessment before starting or resuming intensive exercise
• Returning to training after an injury or operation
• Recurring pain linked to running or cycling

Costs in Switzerland

Consultations for injury or illness are covered by compulsory basic health insurance (LAMal/KVG); with a family doctor model, a prior referral may be required.
